Policy sought to tackle displacement
A large section of slum dwellers in cities consists of migrants from coastal areas who have been victims of natural disasters and these cities should take adequate measures to accommodate them, speakers said at a seminar yesterday.
At the seminar styled “Climate Induced Migrants: Adaptation and National Policy” held at Jatiya Press Club in the capital, climate change activists urged the government to do proper homework and prepare a national policy on climate displacement.
Environment and Forests Minister Hasan Mahmud said the government would commission a study in this regard, which would help to place arguments in international level and prepare a national policy.
The seminar was organised by a group of NGOs.
