Over 100 murdered in Jessore in 10 months
Law and order situation in the district has become too worrying as murder, robbery, mugging and theft are becoming regular features.
At least of 103 people, including a journalist and 11 political party activists, were murdered in different parts of the district in the last 10 months.
People blame the police administration for failure to control crimes while police point to social degradation for the spate of crimes.
According to newspaper reports, the last murder took place in the district in Jessore Uposhohor area on the night of October 30.
In October, nine people were murdered. They include college student Alvi (killed by armed criminals), housewife Salma Khatun (tortured to death) at Kamalpur village under Kotwali PS, Sohel (killed by gunshot) in Jessore town, Robiul Islam at Kholadanga village under Kotwali PS by an unidentified man at Changutia under Abhoynagar PS, Ranju (in a lynch-mob attack) at Pukurpur village under Kotwali PS, one unidentified woman at Kodalia village under Kotwali PS, another unidentified woman at Boukora village under Abhoynagar PS and two outlawed party men -- Anworul Fakir and Khondaker Asad -- at Bhogolpota village under Abhoynagore PS.
In January, 13 people were killed. They include Kabir Hossain and Sharmin Akter of Manirampur upazila, Shamsur Rahman of Bejpara, Selim of Mondal Gathi village, Shawkat Ali of Ghari Khana Road area, Sariful Islam of Nilgonj Tantipara in Jessore town, Khaleda Begum and Faruk Hossain of Jhikorgachha upazila, Abdul Khalek and SSC examinee Masum Reza of Sarsha thana, Monir Hossain of Shaikhati Jamrultala in Jessore town and Abdullah Babu of Mirzanagar under Keshabpur upazila.
In February, 8 people were killed. They include Enamul Gazi of Jhikorgacha, Hafizur Rahman of Keshabpur, housewife Heera of Monirampur, Nurjahan of Chowgachha, Nazmul of Jessore Sadar, Moshiar Rahman of Jhikorgachha, 'Hath Kata' Mamun of Jessore town and Rafiqul of Monirampur.
In March, 12 people were murdered. They are Abdul Sattar of Sharsha, two unidentified people of Monirampur, Nazmul of Jessore Sadar, Jeem and Sazzad of Jessore town, one unidentified woman of Sharsha, Mintu of Jhikorgachha, Bithi Khatoon of Sharsha, Rokshana of Bagerpara, Aminur Rahman of Jessore town and Shaheen Reza of Jessore Sadar.
In April, six people were killed. They are Green Chandar Das and Hashi of Jessore town, Rezul Islam of Manirampur, Ashraful and Hassan of Jessore town and Murad Hossain of Kotwali PS.
In May, seven people were killed. They are Abdul Mazid of Manirampur, Shoma Khatun and Anwarul Islam of Jhikorgachha, two unidentified persons of Keshabpur, Liakot Hossain of Sarsha and Ruhul Amin of Jessore town.
In June, 16 people were killed. They were identified as Idris Ali and Triqul Islam, activists of Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League of Jessore town, Mitul and Dulu Mia of Jhikorgachha, Jesmin and teenage girl Puja of Sharsha, Ashikur Rahman Akul of Jubo Dal, journalist Jamal Hossain of Sharsha, Ziarul of Jessore town, Kibria Forajee of Abhoynagar, Taramon Dashi of Chowgachha, Akash Hossain, Abdus Shahid and Panna Khatun of Sarsha.
In July, eight people were killed. They are as Jubo Dal activist Azad, Salma Khatun and Zahangir Hossain of Jessore Sadar, Faruk of Jhikorgachha, Nowapara poura BNP secretary Lutfar Rahman, school student Sourav of Chowgachha and an unidentified woman of Bagerpara.
In August, 10 people were murdered. They are Jubo League activist Jamal Hossain, Sramik League activist Belal Hossain, Awami League activist Ali Modhu, Rabeya Begum and Kamrul Islam of Jessore Sadar, Abdur Shakur of Chowgachha, Imdadul Islam and Beauty Khatun of Bagerpara and pregnant housewife Suniti Roy of Monirampur.
In September, 13 people were killed. They were identified as Prince of Abad Kochua, Sohel Rana Bakkar, Asaduzzman Monir of Kholadanga in Jessore town, Saiful of Sarsha, BNP leader Ziaul Hoque, Mehedi Hassan, Nuruzzman and pregnant housewife Jesmin of Jessore Sadar, an unidentified woman of Abhoynagar, Ratna of Jessore Sadar, Nayon Begum of Jessore town, Monjuara of Jessore Sadar and Tara Begum of Bagerpara upazila in the district.
