BCB forms committee to probe umps

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formed a three-member committee to formally investigate the allegations of corrupt conduct by umpires under its jurisdiction, who were recently named in a sting operation conducted by India TV, a private Indian television channel.
India TV journalists had conducted a sting operation by posing as members of a sports management company that was hiring umpires. The channel, which aired the video footage last week, claimed that six umpires from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were willing to give doctored decisions during a game in lieu of money. Bangladesh's Nadir Shah was one of them.
According to the footage, which was reportedly shot on July 25 in Delhi, Shah was supposed to come to an agreement with the supposed 'Sports Management Group' in order to officiate in matches in the Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL).
Shah refuted the accusation in various interviews and claimed that the allegations against him were 'baseless'.
The channel also claimed that another Bangladesh umpire and former national spinner Sharfudoullah Ibne Shahid Shaikat, who was also interviewed, refused to perform any favours in exchange for money offered by the undercover reporters.
BCB director and disciplinary committee chairman Sirajuddin Md. Alamgir was named the convenor of the three-member committee. The other members are BCB director and chairman of the umpires committee Mahmood Jamal and BCB's head of anti-corruption & security, Col. (retd.) ATM Mesbahuddin Serniabat.
The accused umpires were provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The committee formed by the BCB is expected to analyse the case in detail and come up with a fair verdict regarding the umpires' involvement.
