<i>'Stalker' headmaster suspended </i>
The headmaster of Habra Girls' High School in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur has been suspended on charge of stalking a student of the school.
Following a complaint filed by the father of the victim with upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), school managing committee and upazila education officer on Thursday, the committee held an emergency meeting on the issue on Sunday night.
Chaired by Md Azaharul Islam Palash, president of the school managing committee, the meeting passed a resolution, suspending headmaster Md Mamunur Rashid on charge of stalking a class 1X student of the school.
The committee also suspended assistant headmaster Md Azizul Islam and assistant teachers Sultan Ali and Sagar Ranjan for keeping mum about the incident.
A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter. School Managing Committee President Azaharul Islam said the probe body has been asked to submit its report as early as possible. “We will take the next steps on the basis of the report,” he said.
The upazila administration also formed an inquiry committee headed by Upazila Education Officer Md Shamser Ali. Contacted, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Rehenul Islam said if the allegation against the headmaster is found to be true, stern action will be taken him.
In the complaint, father of the girl stated that headmaster Mamunur Rashid has been stalking his daughter over a period of six months. She has stopped going to the school since September 10 as the headmaster made an indecent proposal to her, he further said.
Headmaster Mamunur Rashid could not be contacted as his cellphone remained off.
