One killed in Laxmipur gunfight

A man was killed and three others were injured in a gunfight between two rival groups at Dattapara in Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Abu Taher, son of Fazal Karim of Sreerampur village of the upazila.
Local sources said there had been a longstanding conflict between UP chairman Shamim and Ismail and Aziz of the village over establishing their supremacy in the area.
In a sequel to the enmity, the supporters of Ismail and Aziz jointly attacked the house of Shamim, triggering the clash.
Both the groups exchanged around 100 gunshots during the clash, which lasted about two hours.
Taher, a supporter of Shamim, died on the spot and three others -- Sumon, Kawser and Maruf--sustained bullet injuries in the clash.
The bullet-injured were admitted to different local clinics.
Dattapara police camp in-charge Alauddin said he heard the news of death in clash from journalists.
