Nephew, his friend to die
A Dhaka court yesterday gave double death sentence to two persons for murdering journalist Farhad Khan and his wife Rahima Khanam last year.
On January 28, 2011, Farhad Khan, 60, senior assistant editor of the daily Janata, and his wife Rahima Khanam, 55, were killed at their rented flat in Naya Paltan area in the capital.
The condemned convicts are Nazimuzzaman Yon, a nephew of the slain journalist Farhad Khan, and Raju Ahmed, a friend of Yon.
Judge ABM Sajedur Rahman of Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 handed down the verdict.
In his verdict, the judge said the accused were given double death for killing two persons, but one of the sentences will be executed subject to confirmation of the High Court.
Following the killings, Abdus Samad Khan, a younger brother of Farhad, filed a case with Paltan Police Station accusing unknown persons.
Later, police arrested Yon and Raju in suspicion of their involvement in the murders.
