Rokeya university teachers to go on indefinite strike today

Teachers of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur will go on an indefinite class boycott today, demanding the removal of two students who 'assaulted' one of their fellows.
The announcement was made at an emergency meeting on the campus yesterday.
Sources said, students of chemistry and statistics departments locked in an altercation over an inter department football match on Tuesday afternoon.
At one stage, Abdul Latif, lecturer of chemistry department, slapped Imtiyaz Alam Basunia, a student of statistics department as he misbehaved with the students of the teacher's department.
As a sequel to the incident, Imtiyaz and Titas Chandra Roy, a student of marketing department, assaulted Abdul Latif.
Protesting the attack on Latif, the teachers' association at the university held a meeting where the decision for class boycott was taken.
At the meeting, the leaders of the association also decided to bring out a procession today in favour of their demand.
Dr. Sharifa Salwa Dina, president of the association, said they would continue class boycott until Imtiyaz and Titas were removed.
Vice chancellor Abdul Jalil Miah said “We are trying our best to resolve the problem”.
Yesterday morning, students of the university boycotted classes, brought out a procession and held a rally on the campus protesting assault on the student.
The university was opened last year.
