3 injured in BSF firing

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot and injured three Bangladeshi nationals near Chakpara border of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj yesterday.
The injured are -- Setabul Islam, 45, and Abu Sayem, 30, -- sons of late Elias Uddin, and Saidur Rahman, 32, son of Farzen Ali. They live in Unishbighi village under Shahbajpur union.
Lt Col Monjurul Alam, commanding officer of 9 Border Guard Battalion (BGB), said the BSF team of Nawda camp under 125 Maldah opened fire on the three around 7:00am when they were entering Indian territory through the Chakpara border.
Locals rushed Sayem to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition and Saidur to Shibganj Health Complex. Setabul was admitted to a local clinic.
The BGB verbally protested the incident at a company commander-level meeting held at zero line of Chakpara frontier around 8:00am. Later, the BGB also sent a protest letter to its Indian counterpart.
