Speakers yesterday urged the government to declare September 18 as National Cycling Day saying cycling is one of the most important means of transportation considering environment and health.
They were speaking at a rally organised by Bangladesh Cycling Federation, Dhaka Cycling Club, and Nirapad Development Foundation at Aparajeyo Bangla of Dhaka University.
They said fuel-run transports emit carbon dioxide, which is contributing to climate change. Cycles can be a safe transport for commuting in Bangladesh if authorities concerned take necessary measures.
Bangladesh's first Mount Everest conqueror Musa Ibrahim, among others, spoke at the rally.
