A human chain was formed in Kharachhari town yesterday demanding opening of the new building of 50-bed Adhunik Sadar Hospital, which will provide accommodation for 50 more patients.
Several hundred people joined the programme held in Shapla Chattar area in the morning. They demanded that the authorities concerned take immediate steps to open the new hospital building to ensure better heathcare services to the locals.
The building was constructed in 2008 to upgrade the hospital to a 100-bed. But the authorities concerned are yet to take any step in this regard. A good number of patients come to the hospital everyday for treatment, but the heath centre cannot provide accommodation for many of them.
Locals said accommodation and sanitation problems of the hospital will be resolved if the authorities immediately start heathcare services in the new building.
The hospital authorities said they cannot start functioning of the 50-bed new hospital building due to shortage of doctors, nurses and other necessary equipment. Steps are being taken to open it as soon as possible, they added.
