'Secretly' formed school committee protested
Hundreds of people besieged Aldatpur High School in Sadullapur upazila yesterday demanding cancellation of newly formed school managing committee and appointment of headmaster.
Locals burst into protest after upazila secondary education officer and police along with the members of newly formed managing committee yesterday entered the school premises breaking open the lock of its office and classes.
A chase and counter chase took place between the rivals during the incident. However, none was injured.
No classes were being held at the school from August 26 as locals locked it, demanding fair election of the managing committee and recruitment of headmaster.
Earlier, a section of influential people in the area formed a ten-member managing committee with one Afser Ali Mandol in the chair secretly, said the protesters.
Later, the committee got approval from the authorities beyond the knowledge of guardians and locals.
The committee also recruited assistant teacher Kalyan Chandra Sarker of the school as headmaster in exchange of a huge amount of bribe, alleged the speakers at a protest programme.
The unexpected situation caused immense sufferings to the students for the last 10 days, said Solaiman Ali, a guardian.
Contacted, the education officer Abdus Satter Sarker said the matter would be resolved soon through a discussion with the higher authorities.
