Complainant to be cross examined Aug 29

A Chittagong court yesterday deferred the cross-examination of the complinant in the Banshkhali carnage case to August 29, as the judge is on leave.
The cross-examination was scheduled for yesterday.
As the third Additional District and Sessions Judge (acting) Syeda Hosne Ara Begum dealing with the case was still on Eid leave, the fifth Additional District and Sessions Judge Prashanta Kumar Bishwash passed the deferment order.
“On August 29, Advocate Abul Kalam, the lawyer of the accused Nurul Islam Shamsuddin, will cross-examine the complainant Bimal Kanti Shil,” said Chittagong District Public Prosecutor Abul Hashem.
Earlier, Bimal was cross-examined on June 27, July 16, and August 2. He gave his statement before the court on May 15 and 23, and June 3 and 27.
On the night of November 18, 2003, a group of attackers set fire to the house of one Tejendra Shil at Shilpara in Banshkhali upazila, killing 11 members of his family, including an infant.
Tejendra's son Bimal Shil, the lone survivor of the attack, filed a case the following day against 30-35 unidentified people on charges of arson, looting and murder.
On September 12, 2011, the court framed charges against 38 accused.
