Case against Shaon withdrawn

The murder case filed against Humayun Ahmed's wife, Meher Afroz Shaon, and Mazharul Islam, publisher of Anya Prokash Publication Ltd, was withdrawn by the plaintiff in Chittagong yesterday.
Advocate Nazrul Islam, who claims to be a writer, filed the case on August 1 accusing the duo of killing the litterateur to misappropriate his cash and property.
The plaintiff had stated the basis of his suspicion to be two news items published in dailies Amar Desh and Azadi and an article written by Abdul Hye Shikder.
Nazrul said he withdrew the case after many distinguished persons, through statements in newspapers, requested all to refrain from creating controversy over Humayun's family.
