Abdul Hamid critically ill
Abdul Hamid, noted sports commentator and one of the pioneers in sports journalism in the country, is in a serious condition in a local hospital of the capital.
The famous commentator has been under acute observation in United Hospital's High Dependency Unit's (HDU) cardiac department as he underwent an MRI and a bone-scan which revealed a tumour at his spinal cord.
“He can't talk and walk properly, he can't even recognise anyone well and passes his time on the bed, living on liquid food,” Israt Quayum Soma, daughter-in-law of Hamid, told the Daily Star yesterday.
The next course of treatment will be decided on Sunday on the basis of his biopsy report, Soma also informed.
Hamid, who is also the sports editor of Daily Amader Somoy, was admitted in the hospital on July 23 after he complained about a serious back pain. He underwent a prostate gland operation on June 12 and then checked up twice before he was again admitted.
The family members of the eminent sports journalist and commentator have urged everyone to pray for his recovery.
