Elderly woman strangulated in Rajshahi

An elderly woman was strangulated by a young man in Haragram Poschimpara area on the outskirts of Rajshahi city early yesterday.
The victim was Noorjahan Begum, 50.
Locals said they rushed to Noorjahan's house hearing her screams around 2:00am, and found her dead.
The locals caught red-handed Mahbub Hasan Shuvo, 16, who allegedly killed Noorjahan, also a son of the victim's cousin, from the house.
Noorjahan's son-in-law Enamul Haque said the victim used to live at the house alone after marriage of her three daughters.
She had six kathas of land worth about Tk10 lakh, but there was no family feud over the land, he said.
Abdul Mannan, deputy commissioner at Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said they arrested Shuvo, adding that they were investigating into the matter.
M Moniruzzaman, sub-inspector at Rajpara Police Station, said a case was filed with the police station in this connection.
Police sent the body to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
