Prof Anwar takes charge as JU VC
Prof Anwar Hossain yesterday took charge of Jahangirnagar University (JU) as its new vice-chancellor, making a vow that he would lead the institution according to the University Ordinance of 1973.
Prof Farhad Hossain, pro-vice chancellor of the university, handed over the charge at a programme at the Senate Hall. Registrar Abu Bakar Siddique, and Treasurer Nasir Uddin, among others, were present on the occasion.
On Tuesday, President Zillur Rahman appointed Prof Anwar as the vice-chancellor of JU for next four years choosing from a three-member elected panel.
After taking the charge, Prof Anwar sought cooperation from teachers and students to hold elections to the university's different bodies.
Several groups of the university greeted the new VC with floral wreaths. Later, Prof Anwar placed floral wreaths at the JU Shaheed Minar.
Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir, the immediate-past VC, resigned on May 17, in the face of months-long teachers' and students' protests.
