Former CS jailed in corruption case
A Pabna court sentenced a former civil surgeon to one year imprisonment in a corruption case on Monday.
The convict is Dr Md Abdur Rashid, former civil surgeon of Sirajganj district. The Special Judge's Court also fined him Tk two Lakh, in default he is to suffer three months more in jail.
Md Amirul Islam, assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), filed the case against Dr Rashid with Sirajganj Police Station on April, 15, 2000.
In the case statement, the complaint said Dr Md Abdur Rashid, civil surgeon of Sirajganj, approved the offer of the second lowest bidder to supply medicines in the fiscal 1998-99. Thus, the government incurred a loss of Tk 3,88,040, the complainant stated.
Special Judge Amulla Kumar Sarkar pronounced the verdict at noon. “He was punished under Section 5 (2) of the Anti-Corruption Act of 1947,” said Md Abdul Karim, deputy director of ACC Pabna Zonal office.
