Appoint next VC from among teachers

Teachers of Hajee Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) yesterday demanded appointment of vice chancellor (VC) from among the teachers of the university on expiry of terms of the existing VC.
They came up with the plea at a press conference at Dinajpur Press Club under the banner of Progressive Teachers' Forum.
They also urged the authorities not to reappoint or extend the tenure of existing VC M Afzal Hossain whose terms will end on September 2.
Among others, Professor Uttam Kumar Majumdar, member secretary of the demand implementation committee, Prof Anis Khan and Prof Boloram were present.
Prof Md Shahadat Hossain, head of Soil Science Department of the university and convener of the committee, read out the demands at the press conference.
At the conference, the speakers said if the VC is appointed from among the teachers of the university, the development and research activities and educational standard would be maintained properly.
They also sought help of prime minister and education minister in this regard.
The university has 201 teachers, of them 50 professors, sources said.
