AG asked to appear in SC on Feb 26
As the government failed to comply with the Supreme Court orders, the apex court yesterday once again asked the attorney general to appear before the court on February 26 along with a gazette notification on appointment of supporting staff, including upper division (UD) clerks, for the district judicial magistracy.
On February 17, the court granted the government time to publish the gazette notification in this regard by February 20.
As the court resumed, a seven-member full court of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice M Ruhul Amin, got surprised after examining the progress report submitted by Attorney General Fida M Kamal as asked for.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the non-compliance attitude of the bureaucracy, the apex court said it had earlier given the government time and again the deadline to implement its directives on separating the judiciary from the executive. Now the bureaucracy again started the same dilly-dallying process of executing its orders, it noted.
