Drunk prompts bomb alert at airport
Panic gripped Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and passengers on an Emirates flight when a drunk passenger threatened to blow up the plane and the airport last night.
The passenger, Sultan Miah, was returning to Dhaka from Dubai by Emirates. He was detained by the Armed Police Battalion, said ABM Atiqur Rahman, a senior assistant superintendent of police (APBn).
"Sultan Miah started behaving abnormally after drinking aboard the plane," Atiqur said.
After the plane touched down at around 8:30pm, the airline authorities handed him over to the law enforcers deployed for airport security.
The detainee was being interrogated, the ASP added.
M Sohail, director of Rab media and legal wing, said that soon after hearing of the bomb threat, several teams, including Rab's bomb disposal unit with its dog squad, rushed to the airport. But the threat turned out to be a hoax.
