Adda through Art begins at Gallery Chitrak today

American Centre in Dhaka and Gallery Chitrak recently organised a two- day water colour art camp. The camp was held on the bank of river Shitalakha. About 22 artists participated in the workshop. Under the title “Adda through Art”, the paintings from the workshop will be exhibited today at Gallery Chitrak in Dhanmondi.
Lauren Lovelace, director of the American Centre will inaugurate the seven- day exhibition.
Artist Mohammad Muniruzzaman, managing director of Gallery Chitrak said, “The camp focused on water colour. This particular medium creates tranquil and soothing images. I believe that the medium makes it possible for an artist to work fast and presents a quick impact. Such are camps help artists to communicate with each other in a friendly atmosphere.”
The paintings from the workshop featured riverine life, tides of the river, transport in river, people living in the area, natural beauty and more.
The featured artists are Rafiqun Nabi, Monirul Islam, Hamiduzzaman Khan, Shahid Kabir, Biren Shome, Alokesh Ghosh, Golam Faruk Bebul, Mohammad Muniruzzaman, Laila Sharmeen, Zahir Uddin, Anisuzzaman, Firoz Mahmud, Joya Shareen, Khalid Mahmud, Mohammad Wahiduzzaman, Kamaluddin and others.
Rafiqun Nabi, Monirul Islam, Alokesh Ghosh, and Hamiduzzaman Khan are distinguished water colourists in our country. Their participation lend a special appeal to the exhibition.
About the art camp, artist Monirul Islam said, “The camp aimed at generating awareness about the once powerful river Shitalakha. In our student days, we frequently visited the river and acquired many interesting themes. In recent years some of the negative effects of climate change and manmade disaster are apparent in the river.”
The exhibition ends on July 20.
