Football season starts on Sept 15
The Bangladesh Football Federation has decided to start the 2012-13 season from September 15 through the qualifiers of season's curtain raising tournament Federation Cup.
“The next football season starts from September 15 with the Federation Cup and it will end on May 30 next year as we are committed to keeping football on the pitch for nine months,” said BFF's senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy after emerging from the executive committee meeting yesterday.
The decision means the Super Cup will not be held this season and the season comes to a close today with the title decider of Grameenphone Bangladesh League between Abahani and Muktijoddha Sangsad though the football governing body had verbally promised to hold it after the league.
“The Super Cup will not be held this season but we are thinking of holding it in a large scale with the participation of few foreign clubs along with local sides from the next season,” said Salam.
He also informed that they have been in discussion with some sponsors for long-term contract and are in the final stage to put pen on the paper. Graeemphone is likely to renew their contract with the BFF for four more years.
The federation also decided to provide funds for District Football Associations (DFAs) who must hold the district league as well as an age-level tournament every year but the amount they would provide has is to be decided.
“A draft calendar was presented at the meeting but it has not been finalised as it needs some exclusion and inclusion and we expect it will be finalised in the next 10 days,” said acting general secretary Abu Nayeem.
