Buet teachers bring out silent procession

Teachers' Association of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) yesterday brought out a silent procession on campus demanding resignation of Buet's Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nazrul Islam and Pro Vice Chancellor Prof M Habibur Rahman.
Over 100 teachers participated in the programme.
Talking to The Daily Star, the teachers said they would refrain from participating in any programme held by the current administration unless their demands are met.
The association had postponed all academic activities from April 7 to May 5 demanding resignation of the duo bringing some 16 allegations against them.
They claimed that their [VC and pro VC] appointments violated the Buet tradition of maintaining seniority with regard to promotions and appointments.
Later the teachers resumed classes after the prime minister's assurance of solving the matter.
But the teachers of the association feel that nothing has been done regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, VC Nazrul Islam told The Daily Star that all allegations raised against him are false and baseless.
“The teachers' sole target is to take hold of the positions of VC and pro VC,” he said.
