15 shops, 10 houses gutted in Jamalpur, Rajbari fire

At least 14 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Jhaugara Bazar in Melandah upazila early yesterday.
Fire service sources said that the fire originated from an electric short circuit at one Enamul's mobile servicing shop at the bazaar and soon engulfed the adjoining 13 shops at about 12:10am.
On information, two firefighting units from Sadar and Melandah fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after two hours of frantic efforts with the help of local people.
The affected shop owners put the loss from the fire at about Tk 50 lakh.
In Rajbari, at least 10 dwelling houses of five families were gutted in a fire at Tofadia village in Kalukhali upazila on Saturday noon.
Fire service sources said, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a house and soon engulfed the nine other adjacent houses.
On information, two firefighting units from Rajbari town and Pangsha upazila headquarters rushed in and doused the blaze.
The affected house owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 15 lakh.
