Two friends crushed under train's wheels
Two friends sitting on rail tracks with earphones plugged in were crushed under the wheels of a train at Uttara Sector 8 in the capital yesterday.
The deceased Mohammad Hanif, 28, and Abdul Mannan, 25 were rickshaw pullers from Halishahar in Chittagong who had come to Dhaka in search of work.
The duo, along with an unidentified third person, were sitting on the rail tracks around 6:30am when two trains approached them, Nazrul Islam, sub-inspector of Government Railway Police Station at Kamalapur Station told The Daily Star.
Although the locals shouted to alert them, they could not hear the warnings as they had earphones plugged in and were crushed under the wheels of a Jamalpur bound train.
The third person however heard the shouts and managed to save himself.
Later, the families of the dead were informed using the cell phones found on the bodies.
Mannan's mother Jahanara Begum said that her son had come to Dhaka in search of employment.
Hanif's father-in-law Mohammad Milon said that Hanif had a quarrel with his wife on Saturday morning after which he left home. He did not get in touch with his family since then.
