'False case' against Gafargaon journo protested
Journalists of all 12 upazilas under the district submitted memorandum to the home minister through the respective upazila nirbahi officers yesterday protesting 'false implication' of Abdullah Al Mamun Biplob, Gafargaon upazila correspondent of the daily Samakal, in a case filed with Gafargaon police station.
On Saturday morning, AKM Khairul Islam, APS to Ghyas Uddin Ahmed, ruling Awami League lawmaker from Gafargaon, filed the case under Speedy Trial Act against 13 people for alleged attack on the lawmaker's car at Kandipara Bazar area on Friday evening.
But later journalist Biplob was falsely implicated in the case as the Samakal ran a report on the incident with photographs of shooting at the public by the lawmaker from his revolver, goes the memorandum submitted by the journalists under the banner of Upazila Press Club Forum.
They demanded dropping Biplob's name from the FIR.
Meanwhile, Biplob got a 15-day anticipatory bail from the High Court yesterday.
Journalists also formed a human chain in front of Mymensingh Press Club in the town yesterday afternoon. Earlier, a protest meeting was held at the press club auditorium where the newsmen warned of going for greater movement if Biplob's name is not dropped from the case.
