Former BNP lawmaker and convener of Sylhet district BNP M Ilyas Ali filed his wealth statement with the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday evening claiming his wealth to be worth Tk 3.99 crore.

He mentioned in the statement properties including two vehicles worth Tk 1.5 crore, a house at Banani in the capital, cash and land at his village and Dhaka in his and his wife's name.
The ACC had given him seven days' notice on January 27 for submitting the statement. His wife Taslima Rushdie received the notice in Dhaka on January 29.
Ilyas was given seven additional days for filing the statement after he applied for more time.
Ilyas's name is on the latest ACC list of 50 corruption suspects. There are several extortion cases filed against Ali.
He has been on the run since this caretaker government took charge. He even failed to show up at the namaz-e-janaza of his father who died on February 7. Sources say he went to see his father's body the following day at his village home in Ramdhana of Biswanath upazila in Sylhet.
