Int'l Mother's Day today
The “International Mother's Day” will be celebrated in the country as elsewhere in the world today.
The day is aimed at honouring mothers and celebrating motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society.
It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in March, April, or May. In Bangladesh, Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of the month of May.
On this day, people wish their mothers with “Mother's Day” gifts along with organising various programmes showing their deep respect to their mothers and honouring their contributions to society as well.
Different government, non-government and socio-cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day. The programmes include holding discussion, reception and cultural programmes in the capital.
Television channels are scheduled to telecast special programmes and national dailies to publish special features and articles highlighting the significance of the day.
Besides, different fashion houses have brought special products in the markets ahead of the day considering their high demands as people used to give “Sarees” to their moms as “Mother's Day” gift.
Bangladesh Shilpa Sahitya and Sangskritik Parishad will organise a discussion on Poet Kushum Kumari and Poet Sufia Kamal today on the occasion of “International Mother's Day”.
Awami League Advisory Council Member Amir Hossain Amu will join the function as the chief guest at National Museum in the capital.
