Fire breaks out at Ctg jute mill
A devastating fire gutted a huge quantity of jute at the warehouse of Kashem Jute Mills Ltd at Keshobpur in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong yesterday.
Owner and contractor of the jute mill blamed each other for the fire incident.
According to sources, the fire broke out around 8:20am at the warehouse and engulfed it soon. On information, two units of fire fighters rushed in and doused the flame around 12:25pm.
According to the mill authorities, the fire gutted raw jute worth Tk 7 lakh.
Contractor of the jute mill Mohammad Jashim Uddin claimed he rented the mill for five years but the owner of the mill Mohammad Saifullah "illegally" cancelled the deal and took its possession "forcefully" on January 1 this year.
Challenging cancellation of the deal, a writ was filed with the High Court which will give a verdict on it on May 25, Jashim said alleging that ahead of the verdict, the owner set afire to the warehouse with the help of his men.
Mill owner Saifullah, however, claimed that he stored the raw jute and alleged that the people of Jashim set fire to the warehouse.
