Pass rate shows upward trend

The success rate of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examinations under Dinajpur Education Board shows an upward trend as 87.16 per cent of the candidates passed this year's examinations.
The pass rate was 77.48 per cent in 2011, 71.70 per cent in 2010 and 63.58 per cent in 2009, said sources of the education board.
As many as 1,25,272 students of 2,397 schools in eight northern districts under Dinajpur Education Board got registered for the SSC examinations, 1,23,807 of them appeared. Of them 1,07,909 passed in the examination.
Pass rates of male and female candidates are 87.72 and 86.56 per cent respectively.
The number of the highest Grade Point Average GPA-5 holders also increased by 1,946 as 7,431 students, including 4,539 boys and 2,892 girls, of eight northern districts under the board achieved GPA-5 this year, board officials said.
The number was 5,485 in 2011, 6,634 in 2010 and 5,292 students in 2009.
On the other hand, the numbers of institutions with 100 per cent pass rate category has gone up to 231 this year while, the number was 48 in 2011, 46 in 2010 and 34 institution secured the category in 2009.

Top 20 institutions
Seven of the 20 top schools according to the results of this year's SSC examinations under Dinajpur Education Board are in Rangpur district.
Four each of Dinajpur and Nilphamari, two each of Thakurgaon and Panchagarh one each of Kurigram and Gaibandha districts are also among the top 20 of the 2,397 institutions in eight northern districts under Dinajpur Education board.
Position-wise, the top 20 institutions are Cantonment Public School and College in Rangpur, Rangpur Cadet College, Amena Baki Residential Model School in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur, Rangpur Zila School, Thakurgaon Government Boys' School, Syedpur Government Technical High School and College in Nilphamari, Cantonment Public School and College in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur, Rangpur Government High School, Kurigram Government High School, Thakurgaon Government Girls' High School, Syedpur Cantonment Public School and College in Nilphamari, Gaibandha Government Boys High School, Panchagarh BP Government High School, Dinajpur Zila School, Panchagarh Government Girls' High School, Dinajpur Zila School, Panchagarh Government Girls' High School, Lions High School in Nilphamari, Nilphamari Government High School, Bir Uttam Shaheed Samad High School in Rangpur, Police Lines School and College in Rangpur and Dinajpur Government Girls' High School.
