Govt trying to destroy nationalist forces
The government is trying to destroy the country's nationalist forces but BNP is pledged to generate a massive movement against the present Awami League-led regime to protect people's interest, said speakers at a programme yesterday.
“The government is creating anarchy through killings and disappearances and plotting to destroy the country's nationalist forces,” said BNP Chittagong city unit General Secretary Dr Shahadat Hossain.
The unit organised the programme, as part of BNP's countrywide protest, at its office in Chittagong city's Nasiman Bhaban. Uttar Zila BNP also observed similar programmes.
Shahadat said the AL-led government, in fear of losing power, is filing cases against the opposition party leaders to stop the mass movement.
“Making people disappear is not their (the government's) last weapon.” Now-a-days, anybody who talks against the AL is “awarded” with a case filed against them or by being sentenced to jail, he said.
The country is being run on an autocratic process, he added.
The speakers urged all nationalists and patriots to stand united against killings, disappearances and the government's autocratic activities.
The unit Vice President Shamsul Alam presided over the programme where its Information and Research Secretary Sayed Wahedul Alam and member Mahbubur Rahman Shamim also spoke.
Afterwards a protest procession was brought out by the unit which paraded different city streets before ending at Chittagong Press Club.
