Rice-laden truck looted in Gazipur
A Chittagong-bound rice-loaded truck from Naogaon was hijacked in Joydevpur of Gazipur district early yesterday.
Driver of the truck Minol Hossain, 36, and his helper Tawfik, 25, were found lying in senseless condition beside a road at Bushdia of Gawsia in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj in the morning. Gawsia Fari police admitted them to a Narayanganj hospital.
Police said Monoranjan Roy, the owner of a rice storage at Aratdar Patti at Parnaogaon, hired the truck and loaded it with 280 sacks of rice worth Tk 380,626 and 60 empty plastic drums worth Tk 150,000 to carry the goods to M/s Mehraj Store at Chaktai in Chittagong city on Saturday evening.
Naogaon police and owner of the truck Shyamal Saha suspected that members of rice truck-hijackers' gang intercepted the truck in Joydevpur and forcibly drugged the driver and the helper after tying them with ropes.
The miscreants dumped them at Bushdia and fled with the truck.
Both Shyamal and Monoranjan lodged a general diary with Naogaon Sadar Model Police Station.
