CU students clash in train: 7 injured
Seven students of Chittagong University (CU) were injured in a clash on the campus over establishing supremacy in different compartments of a shuttle train yesterday morning.
Police arrested three students from the campus in this regard, said Hathazari Police Station Sub-Inspector Abul Kashem Bhuiyan.
They are Tusher, Mamun and Ovi. Of them, Tusher was held with a firearm and two bullets.
Of the injured, two sustained stab injuries.
Among them, four were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
They were Sheikh Kamal and Sabbir Chowdhury, first year students of Philosophy Department; Aminul Islam, first year student of Statistics Department and Md Shakil, third year student of Mathematics Department.
Sources said students of 'Akakar Group' and '69 Group' locked in a clash as soon as the second shuttle train reached the campus at about 9:00am over controlling the compartments of the train.
Currently seven shuttle trains are used for carrying CU students.
Sources said nearly ten 'compartment-based organisations' are active on the campus though the CU authorities banned those several months before frustrating over their clashes.
CU Police Outpost Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam said the clash ensued from the last compartment of the second train as soon as it reached the campus.
Dr Khan Tauhid Osman, acting proctor of CU, said the authorities took quick initiative to bring the situation under control.
