'Introduce healthcare unit for elderly people'
Different organisations yesterday observed World Health Day across the country, with a call to introduce health care service units for elderly people at all government institutions.
They emphasised the need for ensuring proper medical care for the country's senior citizens.
They also demanded discontinuation of commercialisation of health sector and increasing budgetary allocation to the sector.
Speakers made the demands at the different programmes, including discussions, seminars, fairs and free medical camps, arranged by the organisations marking the day, said separate press releases of the organisations.
This year's motto of the World Health Day is “Ageing and Health”.
Speakers, at a human chain programme organised by Campaign for Good Governance in the capital, made an 11-point demand including introduction of health insurance for all and adoption of long-term national plans to protect the health of old aged people.
Transparency International Bangladesh brought a rally and held a discussion meeting to mark the day in Chandpur.
Students and teachers of the Department of Pharmacy of Jahangirnagar University brought out a colourful rally on the campus.
A workshop on Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation was also organised for students.
Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital facilitated free medical treatment for freedom fighters and elderly people in the capital.
