RU female student expelled for protest
Authorities of Rokeya Hall at Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday expelled a student from the hall as she protested serving unhygienic food at the dining hall on March 12.
A notice, signed by the hall Provost Saeeda Akter, stated that the seat of Bhagabati Rani Roy, a first year student of law and justice department, was cancelled for violating rules and regulations of the hall during the incident on March 12.
"I participated in the protest programme with other female students of the hall but the authorities made only me to leave the hall without any previous notice," Rani alleged.
Earlier on March 12, the resident students of the hall held Proctor Choudhury Muhammad Zakaria and the hall provost in confinement when some 30 students became sick after taking unhygienic food at the dining hall.
They also vandalised the main gate of the hall and the provost's office, demanding investigation into the incident and improvement of the standard of food.
Following the incident, the hall authorities formed a two-member probe body.
Probe body member and resident teacher Istiak Hossain told The Daily Star that the body recommended the hall authorities to cancel the seat of Rani as her involvement with the vandalism was found in preliminary investigation.
