Tauqir, Bipasha to face court April 4
A Dhaka court yesterday issued summons on actor Tauqir Ahmed and his wife Sharmin Hayat Bipasha asking them to appear before it on April 4 hours after a Tk 1.57 crore embezzlement case was filed against them.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Shahadat Hossain passed the order after Tauqir's sister Tanzin Haider, an expatriate living in Sweden, filed the case against them with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
In her complaint, Tanzin alleged that the couple received $1,77,482 and Tk 15 lakh from her through banks and cash in two phases for setting up a firm named 'Nakshatra Bari Resort and Convention Centre Limited' at Sreepur in Gazipur district.
After receipt of the money, the couple bought over 30 bighas of land at Sreepur in their own names and built structures on the land.
But the celebrity couple later refused to return the money or give her any share, the complainant alleged.
A legal notice was served on Tauqir and Bipasha on January 26. It asked them to return the money or hand over the share. Otherwise legal action would be taken against them.
After getting no response from the couple, Tanzin filed the case yesterday.
The complainant also appealed to the court to issue an arrest warrant against them.
