CU classes resume today
After 38 days of unscheduled closure, academic activities at Chittagong University (CU) will resume today amid tight security on the campus.
Students have been asked to bear their identity cards with them at all times.
CU Proctor Siraj Ud-Doullah said the university authorities has taken necessary measures to ensure the safety of students on the campus.
Law enforcers have been deployed on and around the campus and at the railway stations connecting the port city to the campus to avert any untoward situation, he said.
The residential halls of the university, except Shah Amanat Hall, have reopened on Friday and students have started returning to their respective dorms, said campus sources.
Meanwhile, the CU unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) announced indefinite student strike on the campus from today, placing four-point demands to the university authorities.
The demands included proper investigation into the February 8 incident through the judicial probe committee, withdrawal of all false cases against shibir leaders and activists, release of the arrested shibir men and arrest of the killers of the two students.
The university went on an unscheduled closure following clashes between Bangladesh Chhatra League and ICS men on the campus on February 8 that led to the death of two students.
