Tribute to Bangabandhu
The artistes of Shilpakala Academy and different organisations in the town performed at a cultural programme at Shilpakala Academy auditorium marking the 92nd birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day yesterday.
District Shishu Academy organised the cultural programme that included poetry recitation and dance.
The artistes of Shabda Abritti Charcha Kendra recited poems marking the occasion. Painting and essay competitions were also organised by Shishu Academy for the children in which 100 children took part.
The judges of the painting competition were AKM Bulbul, Hasan Masud and Jamal Uddin Ahmed, all art teachers of Mymensingh Zila School, Bidhamoyee Girls High School and Primary Training Institute respectively.
District Child Affairs Officer Farida Yasmin inaugurated the competition. District Cultural Officer Md. Shamsul Alam and Anisuzzaman Ratan of Shishu Academy were also present, among others.
The essay competition for school and college students was held in two groups. Over 80 students of different schools and colleges of the town participated in the competition.
The day-long programme included a colourful rally and discussion.
Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh Lokman Hossain Miah was the chief guest at the discussion held at Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
Among others, chief executive of Mymensingh Zila Parishad Hasanul Islam, Superintendent of Mymensingh Police Golam Kibria, Freedom Fighter District Commander Md. Nazim Uddin delivered speeches. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Kazi Ashraf Uddin presided over the discussion.
The speakers also said that it is our duty to imbue children with the true history of Liberation War so that they can grow up as patriots.
Painting competition in Thakurgaon

A painting competition for children was held on Friday morning to mark the 92nd birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day 2010 at Thakurgaon Zila Parishad Auditorium.
Over 150 school going children from several educational institutions in the town participated in three groups at the competition titled “Jemon Khushi Ako”, “Smriti Shoudha” and “Muktijuddha”.
Judges selected nine children from three groups for awards.
Later, an essay competition was held at the same venue in two separate groups. Ka group took part in “Amader Priyo Bangabandhu” and 'Kha'group in “Bangabandhu O Amader Swadhinata Juddho”. Six children were selected for prizes. Apart from the essay competition an impromptu debate competition was also held at the same venue in two separate groups. A good number of children took part at the competitions.
Faika Anjum Haque, a student of Class-I of Royal Kindergarten who won first prize in the painting competition from “Ka' group told this correspondent that such competitions help the children learn about the rights of children . She also added that through the competition she had learnt about Bangabandhu's life and his inspiring leadership.
Other participants in the painting, essay and debate competitions like Lia, Abonti, Fahim, echoed the same views.
To mark Bangabandhu's birthday (March 17) and National Children's Day, Thakurgaon District Administration with the assistance of District Shishu Academy organised the two-day (March 16-17) programme including a rally, and painting, essay competitions, a debate, discussion and cultural function.
On Saturday morning a colourful rally was held from the Deputy Commissioner's Office premises and ended at Zila Parishad Auditorium premises.
