7 die in road accidents
Seven people were killed and 22 others injured in road accidents in Khagrachhari, Sylhet, Rangpur, Dinajpur and Jhenidah on Wednesday and yesterday.
Our correspondent from Khagrachhari adds: Three day labourers were killed and at least four others injured as a timber-laden truck skidded off the road at Hridoy Member Para in Matiranga upazila yesterday.
Mohammad Sahabuddin, 32, son of Bela Mia, Mafiz, 28, son of Shirazul Islam and Abrur Rashid, 40, son of Dharak Ali from Natunpara area of the upazila, died instantly.
Police said the accident occurred around 01:30am when the driver of the truck lost control over the steering.
The injured were admitted to Matiranga Upazila Health Complex.
Our staff correspondent from Sylhet adds: Agitating locals barricaded Nabab Road at Bagbari in the city on Wednesday night for about an hour as a shop owner was run over by a speeding truck there at 8:30pm.
Abdul Wahab, 22, of 75, Nabab Road, is a grocery shop owner at Dakbanglow Road.
A correspondent, Rangpur reports: A man was killed when a bus hit him before Kaunia petrol pump on Rangpur-Kurigram highway at Kaunia upazila on Wednesday evening.
Nurunnabi, 30, son of late Abdur Rahman of Sahabaz village of the upazila, was rushed to the Kaunia Upazila Health Complex and later shifted him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he died at night.
Our correspondent from Dinajpur reports: A man was killed and another 18 people were injured as a bus collided head-on with a brick-laden tractor trolley at Brohammachari village in Phulbari upazila at 7:30pm on Wednesday, police said.
The identity of the deceased could not be known but it was confirmed that he was the helper of the bus driver.
Eight injured persons were admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital while others to Phulbari Health Complex.
In Jhenidah, Masudur Rahman, 30, son of Elahi Mondal of Shailakupa upazila, died instantly as a sand-laden truck rammed a rickshaw-van carrying him on Shailakupa-Langolbad road at Boria village in the upazila yesterday afternoon.
