Man jailed for keeping arms, 2 women for drug peddling
A court here on Tuesday convicted a man and awarded him life imprisonment for possessing arms.
The convict was identified as Gias Uddin Sanu, 27, son of Chan Mia of Chhabria Maijkandi village in Jakiganj upazila,
According to the prosecution, Rab-9 members arrested Sanu and recovered three foreign revolvers from his possession on November 28, 2007.
A case was filed with Jakiganj PS against him under the Arms Act.
After examining the records and witnesses, Judge M Manzurul Haque of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-3 handed down the verdict.
In Bogra, a mobile court on Tuesday sentenced two female drug peddlers to two years imprisonment each for possessing heroin.
The convicts were identified as Shaheda, 35, wife of Mohammad Bhasha and Rasheda, 32, wife of Azgar Ali of Betkher village of Sherpur upazila.
Police said on secret information they raided the houses of Shaheda and her neighbor Rasheda and arrested them along with 50 small packets of heroin.
Later, they were produced before the mobile court led by UNO Manzur Alam who awarded the punishment.
Locals said they were involved in drug peddling since long.
