'Govt recovers land worth Tk 283cr'
The government has recovered a total of 1,555.232 acres of government land worth Tk 283.33 crore from illegal occupation during the 2010-2011 fiscal year.
Land Minister Md Rezaul Karim Hira said this while replying to a question from BNP lawmaker Begum Nilofer Chowdhury Moni in the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday.
Replying to another question from treasury bench member Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, the minister said the government has taken steps to recover the traditional “Mata Sagar” (a huge pond) in Dinajpur.
In this connection, he said, the ministry earlier formed a probe committee to investigate the matter of leasing out the “Mata Sagar Digi” and its adjacent lands. The committee has already submitted its report with recommendation to recover the land by scrapping the illegal leasing, he added.
The government has recovered 272.75 acres of land in Dhaka division, 672.286 acres in Chittagong, 40.7746 acres in Rajshahi, 248.76 acres in Khulna, 54.926 acres in Barisal, 171.2649 acres in Sylhet, and 93.47 acres in Rangpur.
