Debdas's body handed over to Ibrahim Medical College
The family of late artist Debdas Chakraborty handed over his body to Ibrahim Memorial Medical College yesterday.
"We have donated his body for the research of medical students according to his last wishes," said Gautam Chakraborty, elder son of Debdas, while talking to The Daily star.
Earlier at 10:00am, the body of Debdas was taken to the Institute of Fine Arts where Director Abdus Shakoor Shah, teachers and students of the institute paid respects to the artist.
His coffin was then taken to the Central Shaheed Minar where Cultural Adviser Rasheda K Choudhury and people from all walks of life including writers, painters, academics, journalists, and cultural activists placed wreaths on it.
The late artist was also given a guard of honour there.
He graduated from Dhaka Art College (present Institute of Fine Arts) in 1956 and received training in the art of printmaking from Poland in 1979.
He worked under the eminent artist Kamrul Hassan at the information cell of Bangladesh government in exile during the liberation war and designed a poster which was a great inspiration for the freedom fighters.
