150MW power plant ready to start operation

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate a 150-megawatt gas-fired power plant at Kumargaon near Sylhet city on March 24, officials said yesterday.
The construction of all infrastructures is complete, they said, and test operation is underway to ensure that everything in the plant is working properly.
Currently, seven power plants in Sylhet are generating around 327MW electricity. The 150MW Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) is the eighth one in this region.
The plant is ready to go for production, said Khandaker Iftekhar Uddin, superintending engineer of the Power Development Board (PDB) and the project director.
The prime minister will hopefully inaugurate it on March 24, he added.
China's Shanghai Electric Group Company Ltd built the plant at a cost of Tk 879 crore.
