Book Fair in honour of a Language Movement veteran
A book fair in honour of Language Movement veteran Mohammad Sultan concluded at Panchagarh Government Auditorium premises on Saturday night.
On heels of the mela, a discussion and a vibrant cultural programme were held at the venue.
The discussants said, events like book fairs play an important role in generating interest in books, promoting the reading habit and encouraging new readers. The huge turnout at the mela premises was a good sign, said the organisers, saying that the reading habit could help build a healthy nation.
Sixty years after the Language Movement and 29 years after Language Movement veteran Mohammad Sultan's, death, Jatiya Grantha Kendra and the district administration jointly organised the fair.
Lawmaker of Panchagarh-1constituency, Mozaharul Haque Prodhan, inaugurated the event on February 21 while deputy commissioner of Panchagarh, Md. Tofazzol Hossain Mian, was in the chair.
Among others, superintendent of police, Shahreer Rahman; additional deputy commissioner Ahsanul Pervez; additional district magistrate, Ahmed Kabir, and others, addressed the gathering.
About 30 stalls were set up at the mela. Besides cultural programmes were held and video shows on different topics were being screened on each day. Local artistes and different cultural organisations performed at the programmes.
The main attraction of the book fair was the launch of eight books including novels and poetry compilations by local writers and poets. The books were “Pathorkuchi Bhalobasha”, “Shukher Shesh Nei” and “Adrishsha Hareer Smriti” by Ali Sayeed.
