Ilyas Ali faces ACC March 4
Anti-Corruption Commission's Sylhet office summoned Sylhet district BNP President M Ilyas Ali on March 4 over allegations against him of extorting Tk 1.2 crore for a public meeting and amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
The meeting was organised by the district BNP in October last year during the road march led by party Chairperson Khaleda Zia to protest construction of the Tipaimukh dam.
Legal steps would be taken if the accused failed to appear, read a letter issued by ACC Sylhet office Assistant Director Md Zakir Hossain, who is also inquiring into the allegation, to the former lawmaker.
During the caretaker government regime in 2007, the ACC filed a case against Ilyas accusing him of amassing wealth beyond the known sources of income but the proceedings were stayed through a High Court order.
