Work to stop domestic violence

Speakers urge local representatives

Speakers at a discussion yesterday urged the local elected representatives to use their popularity in encouraging people to stop domestic violence against women and girls.
Urging the government to disseminate Domestic Violence Act (Prevention and Protest) 2010, they said if the nation wants to end any form of violence in society, it should start with domestic violence.
The discussion was organised by Plan Bangladesh at the Chittagong District Administration hall room in Chittagong city as part of the USAID-sponsored campaign to end domestic violence.
“Women of our country are not properly informed about this act and so fail to get enough benefits from it,” said Ensure Legal Support through Local Movement and Action Chief Executive Jesmin Sultana Paru.
Additional District Commissioner Khaled Mamun Chowdhury attended the programme as the chief guest while Plan Bangladesh Coordinator Sariful Alam and Chittagong District Officer for women affairs Anjana Bhattchargee also spoke at the discussion.
