Conference on physics ends at Sust

A national conference on advances in physics 2012 ended on the campus of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust), Sylhet yesterday.
Physics department of Sust organised the two day-long event, where a large number of national and international scientists and researchers participated.
The Sust Vice Chancellor (VC) Saleh Uddin inaugurated the programme around 9:00am on Tuesday with physics department Head and the Convener of the organising committee Dr Yasmeen Haque in the chair.
Treasurer Dr Ilias Uddin Bishwas, General Secretary of the organising committee Dr Abdul Hannan, and Dr Sharif Md Sharaf Uddin addressed the programme.
There were four sessions of about 50 presentations on different topics of physics on the day.
On the concluding day of the conference,' United Talk' was held in the gallery of 'A' building around 9:00am, where Prof Arshad Momin of Dhaka University (DU) presented the key note paper.
There were two sessions of 20 presentations on Condense Matter Physics and Relativity and Astro-Physics chaired by Dr Samsunahar Begum and Dr Arun Kumer Dev of Chittagong University respectively.
Meanwhile, an open discussion, titled 'Popularising Science Education in Bangladesh', was held at the central auditorium at 2:00pm conducted by eminent writer and computer science and engineering department Head of Sust Dr Md Zafar Iqbal.
Dr Zafar Iqbal said," Creative method of study instead of text book-based memorising method has brought about a change in our education system".
He urged the government to allocate more money in the budget for education.
Founding VC of SUST Dr Sadaruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Sust VC Dr Saleh Uddin, and Dr Ali Asgar and Dr Arshad Momin of DU took part at the discussion.
