Counsels visit Ghulam Azam

Family members and counsels of former Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Ghulam Azam, who is detained for committing crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971, met him yesterday at the prison cell in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the city.
The two counsels Ehsan Siddique and Shishir Monir visited him from 9:00am to 1:00pm while his wife Syeda Afifa Azam, son former Brig Gen Abdullahil Aman Azmi and a grand daughter visited from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
His chief counsel Barrister Abdur Razzaq said the two counsels met Ghulam Azam as part of their legal visit and it was the third legal visit.
BSMMU Director Brig Gen Abdul Majid Bhuiya said jail guards led by a deputy jailer remained present during the visits yesterday.
“Ghulam Azam's counsels met him with permission from the court while his family members met him with permission from the jail authorities,” he said.
International Crimes Tribunal on January 11 ordered to send Ghulam Azam to jail after he appeared before the tribunal and later he was shifted to the BSMMU prison cell for his ailing condition.
