Tribute paid to Alam
Mohammad Alam would remain alive among the people through his works, speakers at a memorial meeting said yesterday.
Dhaka Union of Journalist (DUJ) organised the meeting to pay tribute to the noted photojournalist who was also a valiant freedom fighter.
The meeting also observed one-minute's silence in his honour.
The speakers at the meeting said Alam's professional proficiency, sincerity and honesty in journalism would inspire others.
DUJ President Altaf Mahmud chaired the meeting while Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, former BFUJ presidents Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Habibur Rahman Milon, former Jatiya Press Club general secretaries Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman and Swapan Saha, DUJ General Secretary Omar Faruk and President of Photojournalists' Association AKM Mohsin spoke.
They said although Alam was the personal photographer to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he did not take any benefit for his personal gain. Rather he led a very simple life, they added.
Referring to Alam's contribution to the War of Liberation, the discussants said Alam fought in the battlefield with a rifle in one hand and a camera in the other.
They also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members of the noted photographer who passed away on January 10 due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 61.
