Final round held at Summer Fields School
The eight-day inter-class debate contest of Summer Fields School titled 'Star Campus-Drishty Debate Competition for Generation Next' ended on the school campus in the port city yesterday.
Professor Abdul Hoque Chowdhury team comprising students of Class IX clinched the title defeating Professor Abul Fazal team comprising Class V in the final round of the parliamentary debate contest.
The topic was 'Social commitment is much more important than political commitment for the prevention of drug'.
Falah Galeeb of the winning team was adjudged the best debater.
Senior teacher of the school Alok Kumar Mazumder, Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) President Sheikh Abdus Samad Himel, Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB) Debating Club Office Secretary Tazrian Shahid and Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Debate Federation Syed Rifat Farook were the judges in the final round while Drishty Joint Secretary Adnan Mannan was the speaker.
Oswald Gonsalves, moderator of the 17-member debate club of the school, coordinated the competition participated by eight teams comprising the students from Class V to Class IX. The competition kicked off on January 29.
Chairman of Chittagong Stock Exchange Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury distributed prizes and certificates among the winners as the chief guest.
Principal of the school Narayan Chowdhury also spoke.
Speakers at the ceremony urged the students to participate in debate and other cultural activities to enrich their outlooks on different contemporary issues.
They asked the students to try to be more knowledgeable instead of being a bookish person only.
Principal Narayan Chowdhury thanked the organisers for arranging such competition.
Vice Principal of the school Molly Chowdhury, System Engineer of Radio Foorti Asif Iqbal Palash, Drishty President Masud Bakul and Drishty Secretariat Member Afsana Rahman Chowdhury were also present on the occasion.
